The tech space continues to grow, making it the perfect place to explore roles that come naturally to you. As we wrap up our Women’s Month campaign, She Techs Her Way, where we highlight women doing tech their own way at Integrove, this week we feature Rethabile Mohapi, our Junior Business Analyst. Rethabile shows us that exploring is always a good idea.

Step into the Integrove offices, and one thing you’ll notice immediately is Rethabile’s larger-than-life personality and infectious laugh.

Her journey into tech began differently to how it looks now. Although she is currently a Business Analyst, she actually started in a different role.

“My first career was in software engineering and I really enjoyed that,” Rethabile chuckled as she started talking.

Connecting with people is at the core of who she is. You rarely see her alone; she’s always around the office doing what she does best: building relationships.

Bridging Business and Technology

We wanted to find out more about Rethabile’s role and get a glimpse into a day in her life.

“As a Business Analyst, I’m the bridge between the business and the technical teams. My role is to make sure everyone is aligned on what we’re building, why we’re building it, and how it solves the real problem.”

Business Analysts are no longer just documentation teams; they are becoming strategic agents of change in organisations.

“My role is about ensuring alignment, clarity, and focus throughout the delivery lifecycle.”

Breaking Myths About Tech

Inspiring the next wave of Rethabiles is a big part of our She Techs Her Way campaign. There’s still a common misconception that everyone working in tech must be highly technical, but Rethabile strongly disagrees.

“There’s really no such thing as being ‘technical enough’. Tech is big, bold, and constantly evolving. The tools you know today might be outdated tomorrow.”

She explains further:

“Tech needs problem-solvers, communicators, designers, strategists, not just coders. Your ability to analyse, connect dots, and bring fresh perspectives is just as valuable as technical skills.”

Women in Tech Leadership

Leading from this, we discussed the importance of women taking up leadership roles in tech. Rethabile believes leadership is about vision and empathy.

“Tech leadership isn’t just about writing code; it’s about vision, strategy, and empathy. Women bring diverse perspectives, collaborative leadership styles, and often a greater focus on building inclusive solutions.”

She believes good leadership requires a balance of representation, creativity, and collaboration:

“When women lead in these roles, we show others that tech leadership can take many forms. And it sends an important message to the next generation that there’s space for you here, even if your path doesn’t look like the traditional one.”

Balancing Tech and Motherhood

Rethabile recently took on a new role in her personal life – becoming a mother.

“Whoa!” she exclaimed with a smile.

“I am a new mom to the most amazing, beautiful boy. Yes, I am a techie, and I feel like it is a balancing act. Motherhood has given me a sense of urgency, time management, and proper planning.”

She acknowledges that the transition to being a working mom hasn’t been without challenges, but she’s proud of how she’s navigated the change.

“I believe women are so powerful because they can lead and nurture at the same time. We can be all-rounders because we persevere — and that’s what makes us powerful.”

How She Techs Her Way

Being authentic is incredibly important to Rethabile. When asked if she’s ever felt like she didn’t belong, she reflected:

“Being the only woman in a space where there are a lot of men, I would sometimes feel like I didn’t belong here. But I believe my hard work and perseverance are what brought me here.”

For Rethabile, making her own rules is how she Techs Her Way:

“You can be anything you want to be. You don’t have to follow anyone’s rules. It’s about building yourself up to where you want to be.”

She ended the interview on a high note:

“Own the space and you can do it. Tech your way!”
