Use Case: Vendors Using Your Data
If you buy an AI solution, ask whether the vendor is using your data to improve their model. This is especially important for companies with large volumes of sensitive or proprietary data. You could be transferring significant value without even realising it. Always confirm how your data is used and protected.
Use Case: Hidden Decision-Making
AI is already influencing decisions in many businesses, like screening CVs, approving loans, or routing customer queries. Often, users do not even know that an algorithm is involved.
Without disclosure, people affected by a decision might not realise they were evaluated by a system that could be unfair or flawed. As AI becomes more integrated into operations, the focus is shifting from whether AI is effective to whether it is fair.
Large companies should be requesting AI governance policies from vendors to protect both people and their own reputation.
Use Case: Cross-Border Compliance
International rollout adds legal complexity. The European Union’s AI Act introduces binding rules for high-risk use cases such as recruitment, healthcare, and credit scoring. These include:
